About the role
Reporting to the Payroll Coordinator, you will play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and compliant payroll services across Council’s workforce. You will oversee end-to-end payroll processing, provide expert guidance on payroll legislation and industrial requirements, support system enhancements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
As a senior member of the team, you will help ensure payroll operations run smoothly, maintain the integrity of payroll data and processes, mentor colleagues and deliver high-quality service to employees and stakeholders.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead end-to-end payroll operations for a diverse workforce, ensuring employees are paid accurately, on time and in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.
- Provide expert guidance on Awards, taxation, superannuation and Local Government legislative requirements, ensuring accurate, compliant and customer-focused service delivery.
- Manage complex payroll matters, including termination payments, reconciliations, reporting, audits and statutory obligations.
- Support the enhancement and optimisation of payroll systems, including upgrades, testing, troubleshooting and maintaining data integrity.
- Mentor and support team members, sharing knowledge, building capability and acting as the Payroll Coordinator's delegate when required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that streamline processes, strengthen compliance and enhance service outcomes.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- End-to-end payroll experience within a medium to large organisation, supported by relevant qualifications in Payroll, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, Awards and industrial requirements, with the ability to interpret and apply complex legislative and compliance obligations accurately.
- Advanced payroll systems and reporting expertise, including payroll administration, data integrity, troubleshooting, reconciliations and payroll analysis.
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills, with proven experience managing complex payroll calculations, termination payments, taxation and superannuation obligations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a customer-focused approach and the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
- Leadership and teamwork capability, including experience mentoring colleagues, supporting continuous improvement initiatives and contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.
- Experience using TechnologyOne CIAnywhere and payroll modules is desirable but not essential.
