About the role
As an Urban Planner, you will be responsible for preparing and assessing planning proposals, contributing to policy development, analysing complex planning issues, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality strategic planning outcomes.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare, assess, and report on Planning Proposals, LEP and DCP amendments, ensuring compliance with NSW planning legislation
- Provide specialist planning advice in pre-lodgement meetings, development referrals, and strategic assessments
- Conduct research and analysis to support evidence-based planning strategies and contribute to Council submissions on planning reforms
- Consult with residents, government agencies, Councillors, and stakeholders on a wide range of planning issues and initiatives
- Prepare reports for Council, the Local Planning Panel, and the Sydney North Planning Panel
- Assist in managing consultants and planning projects, including budgets and timelines
- Provide advice on environmental sustainability, heritage management, and contributions planning
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning (or equivalent), and eligibility for professional membership
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence
- Strong working knowledge of NSW planning legislation including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act
- Experience in policy development, project management, and strategic planning
- Ability to analyse complex planning issues and develop practical, innovative solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication and strong conflict resolution skills
- Ability to prepare and review LEPs, DCPs, and Planning Proposals
- Experience using planning software tools and digital applications
