About the role
Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking an experienced Community Environmental Officer
to join our team and play a key role in managing environmental issues across the bushland and private property interface.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct inspections and investigations relating to dumping and encroachment at the bushland/private property interface.
- Respond to environmental complaints, investigate issues and coordinate appropriate follow-up, resolution and remediation.
- Undertake proactive inspections of Council reserves to identify dumping and encroachment issues including tracks and trails.
- Assist regulatory officers with infringement notices relating to environmental and bushland breaches.
- Deliver community anti-dumping education campaigns in collaboration with Council’s waste and cleaning services teams.
- Assist with the review and implementation of Council’s Bushland Dumping and Encroachment Policy.
- Provide advice on sustainability issues relating to the bushland/private property interface.
- Maintain accurate records, statistics and evidence relating to complaints, inspections and investigations.
- Develop and deliver environmental education and engagement, including support to Council programs such as Creekcare, Trailcare and Bushcare
- Monitor and evaluate program performance and prepare reports and performance data as required.
- Provide a high level of customer service when responding to environmental requests and complaints.
- Deliver environmental training and support to staff as required.
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant legislation, Council policies, procedures and WHS requirements.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant environmental discipline and/or substantial experience in a similar capacity.
- Current Class C driver’s licence.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing policies and strategies relating to environmental issues, particularly bushland/private property interface management.
- Experience maintaining records and compiling factual evidence for legal proceedings and/or reports to senior management.
- Experience developing and delivering environmental or sustainability education and promotional resources to a range of stakeholder groups.
