About the role
As Strategic Recreation Planner, you will lead the planning and delivery of recreation facilities, strategies and policies across the Ku-ring-gai local government area. Working within the Urban and Heritage Planning team, you will drive major projects, develop innovative approaches and collaborate with sporting groups, government agencies and the community to create high-quality recreation outcomes.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the preparation of recreation strategies, concept plans and Plans of Management for community land.
- Implement priority initiatives from the Ku-ring-gai Recreation Needs Study and guide long-term recreation planning.
- Manage recreation infrastructure projects from concept through procurement, delivery and consultant management.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with sporting organisations, schools, government agencies and community groups.
- Identify and secure grant funding and strategic partnerships to enhance recreation and open space facilities.
- Provide specialist recreation planning advice, prepare strategic reports and represent Council with stakeholders, executives and elected officials.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in urban planning, landscape architecture, recreation planning or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in recreation planning or a related field, ideally within local or state government
- A current Class C driver’s licence.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation including the Local Government Act 1993, Crown Lands legislation and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
- Demonstrated experience preparing recreation strategies, needs studies and Plans of Management.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, consultants and external funding opportunities, including securing grant funding.
- Excellent communication, report writing and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to lead initiatives and collaborate across teams.
