About the role
As the Coordinator Tree Management, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Ku-ring-gai’s urban forest. You will lead the delivery of Council’s tree management operations, policies and programs—protecting a valued natural asset while balancing environmental outcomes, public safety and community expectations.
As a trusted expert, the decisions you make will influence how trees are managed across both public and private land, leaving a lasting legacy for the community—today and for generations to come.
Reporting to the Manager Assets & Technical Services, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to manage, protect and enhance Council’s tree assets while balancing risk, safety and community expectations
- Develop and implement tree management policies and LEP controls, oversee tree risk assessment and preservation, and ensure compliance with legislation and Australian Standards
- Deliver expert arboricultural advice, manage investigations and compliance matters, and prepare high-level reports and correspondence for Council, elected representatives and senior leadership
- Lead capital works and tree programs, manage budgets, contractors and service providers, and drive efficient, high-quality service deliver
- Lead and develop the Tree Management team, manage performance and and continuously improve systems, processes and outcomes
Qualifications, Skills & experience
- Diploma of Arboriculture (AQF Level 5) or equivalent, current C Class Driver’s Licence, White Card and TRAQ qualification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience in a senior arboriculture or tree management role within local government, including direct staff supervision, program leadership and contract administration
- Extensive experience in tree risk assessment, preservation and compliance, with strong knowledge of relevant legislation, LEP controls, Australian Standards and best-practice arboriculture
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage complex community issues, prepare high-level technical and Council reports, and engage effectively with Councillors, senior staff and external stakeholders
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to manage budgets and confidently use corporate systems including MS Office, GIS and customer request platforms
