About the role
Council is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Team Leader Urban Design & Public Domain to guide the future planning and delivery of high-quality, sustainable public spaces, centres, and urban environments across the Local Government Area.
This is a key leadership position responsible for driving the urban design direction of major strategic and infrastructure programs that shape the character and livability of Ku-ring-gai.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the preparation of urban design, public domain, open space and recreation strategies and masterplans
- Develop and implement key Council policy documents, including contributions to the LSPS, Housing Strategy, KLEP and KDCP
- Prepare and assess design content of planning proposals and development applications
- Produce high-quality design guidelines, development controls and 3D modelling for key sites and precincts
- Represent Council and advocate for design excellence in cross-disciplinary forums, executive briefings, and community engagement
- Manage consultant procurement, project delivery and budgeting
- Oversee and monitor the implementation of Council’s capital works programs related to the public domain and open space
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Landscape Architecture or related discipline
- Eligibility for corporate membership with AILA, RAIA, PIA or relevant body
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in planning, urban design and landscape architecture
- Demonstrated success in leading high-performing teams and managing multi-disciplinary design projects
- Experience working within both State and Local Government environments
- Expertise in project delivery, consultant management and stakeholder coordination
- Highly developed design and report writing skills
- Strong understanding of NSW planning system, policies and legislation
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution skills
- Strategic thinker with the ability to synthesise complex information into integrated and creative outcomes
